How Green Spaces Albany Came Was Formed
During our multiple-mile walks through downtown Albany, we began to notice a significant lack of trees and dedicated green spaces in the area. As we covered more ground, it became increasingly clear that there was a real need for more greenery, especially in the densely built-up parts of the city. This observation led us to conduct further research, which revealed a concerning trend: low-income areas, particularly in the winter, were even more devoid of trees and natural spaces.
Without the shade, beauty, and environmental benefits that trees provide, these neighborhoods were missing out on critical elements that contribute to both physical and mental well-being. Recognizing the importance of addressing this issue, we decided to take action and founded Green Spaces Albany. Our goal is to bring more trees and green areas into these parts of the city, working to create a healthier, more vibrant, and sustainable urban environment for all residents.
